2010 Wimbledon Championships Recap

After Roland Garros, I want to recap Wimbledon Championships from the qualifiers.
This looks different, because we have 4 categories of qualifiers.

Welcome to Days of Qualifiers! 4 days of Qualifying Rounds of 2010 Wimbledon Championships. Men's Qualifying Singles, Women's Qualifying Singles, Men's Qualifying Doubles, and Women's Qualifying Doubles. That's make the qualifiers looks different. And from this qualifiers, players' that wins the last round of Qualifiers will make it into Main Draw (will be the greatest achievement for him/her, especially who is/are advanced to Main Draw for the first time).

Welcome to Main Draw Day 1! At the Centre Court, Roger Federer near to lose. He defeats Alejandro Falla 5-7, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1), 6-0. Surprise coming in this day, when Francesca Schiavone defeated by Vera Dushevina 6-7 (0), 7-5, 6-1. Another surprise is coming next. Stanislas Wawrinka, Marin Cilic, Ivan Ljubicic, Tommy Robredo, are eliminated at the opening round. This looks surprising. At the women's side, we have Venus Williams who defeated Rossana de los Rios 6-3, 6-2. British teenager Laura Robson is defeated by Jelena Jankovic in the tight match, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Main Draw Day 2
Welcome to Main Draw Day 2! This is the day when the longest match, John Isner vs Nicolas Mahut. At this time, the longest match is suspended at 4-6, 6-3, 7-6, 6-7 and the time for the 5th set at Day 3. The surprise is, Almagro, Verdasco, Stosur, Safarova, and Ferrero, are eliminated in their category, Men's Singles and Women's Singles. And, some matches cancelled because bad light. Main Draw Day 3
Welcome to Main Draw Day 3! This time, the longest match in Wimbledon, John Isner vs Nicolas Mahut, returns. At the time, the score is long and long, the match is become tight, and the players looks tired or whatever, and the audience looks confusing. See that the match is going 59-59 at the 3rd set and will returning at Main Draw Day 4 cause the (dark) reason. In another match, Andy Roddick, Venus Williams, Novak Djokovic, and other seeds, advanced. Seeds eliminated in this round are Shahar Peer, Lukasz Kubot/Oliver Marach, etc. in their category. Main Draw Day 4
We are arrived to Main Draw Day 4. Matches looks amazing and going tight. And this is the last day for the longest match in Wimbledon history, John Isner vs Nicolas Mahut. Battle is back, the match looks tight, people confusing, but some predicted the match will return at the next day. And the battle on the 5th set ends. Isner wins the match. After that, Isner, Mahut, and umpire Mohamed Lahyani took the picture beside the scoreboard. At this day, Murray, Nadal, Soderling, Tsonga, Bellucci, Sharapova, Wozniacki, Ferrer, Serena, etc. advanced to the next round in their categories. Main Draw Day 5
Welcome to Main Draw Day 5! This is the start of Mixed Doubles category. In this category, British entry Jamie Murray and Laura Robson, eliminated in the first round against Andre Sa and Vera Zvonareva, all entries are unseeded. Surprisingly, Albert Montanes, Gael Monfils, Feliciano Lopez, John Isner (who at the last 3 days played the longest match against Nicolas Mahut, making history), Mikhail Youzhny, Victor Hanescu, are eliminated. And in the Women's Singles, another surprise had came. Nadia Petrova, Alisa Kleybanova, Alona Bondarenko, Yanina Wickmayer, are eliminated. In the Doubles category, surprise had came again. Especially in Men's Doubles. 2 couples are eliminated in the preliminaries. They are Frantisek Cermak/Michal Mertinak and Lukas Dlouhy/Leander Paes. In Women's Doubles, Maria Kirilenko/Agnieszka Radwanska and Alicja Rosolska/Zi Yan eliminated from the preliminaries. Official site of this tournament - www.wimbledon.org. Main Draw Day 6
Welcome to Main Draw Day 6. Seeds and seeds eliminated in this day. Another seeds at Men's Singles eliminated. 8 seeds total eliminated in the Singles category. As of this day, another doubles stars are eliminated. They are Daniel Nestor/Nenad Zimonjic, Marcelo Melo/Bruno Soares and Mariusz Fyrstenberg/Marcin Matkowski on the Men's Side. On the Women's side, Chia-Jung Chuang/Olga Govortsova, Monica Niculescu/Shahar Peer, and Vera Dushevina/Ekaterina Makarova, are eliminated. The another Doubles category, Mixed Doubles, are having 3 seeds eliminated, and more entries eliminated cause losing their match against their opponents. Seeds from Mixed Doubles who are eliminated are Oliver Marach/Nuria Llagostera Vives, Mahesh Bhupathi/Liezel Huber, and Robert Lindstedt/Ekaterina Makarova. Let's go to the next day!

Middle Sunday
Welcome to the Middle Sunday. As of Wimbledon history, no matches played in the Middle Sunday. This is one of the traditions at Wimbledon. This day is the rest day for guys, especially players. So, the Day 7 fell on Monday. Let's go to the Day 7!

Main Draw Day 7
Welcome to Day 7. After the rest day at Middle Sunday, players' may looks fresh and ready for the match. The thing that makes the competition looks exciting and matches looks tight. Again, surprise is come in the categories. Also, this is the start of the Juniors' category, that played between Court 6 until Court 17, except Court 8 cause in that court 3 doubles matches (Men's side, Women's side, or Mixed side) are playing in the court. Also, surprise is coming too in the juniors'. At Men's singles side, Julien Benneteau, David Ferrer, Jürgen Melzer, Lleyton Hewitt, Sam Querrey, and Andy Roddick, are eliminated. In this eliminated list, surprisingly, Andy Roddick are beaten by Yen-Hsun Lu. And the history gets it back. Yen-Hsun Lu is the only Asian player who advanced to the Wimbledon Quarterfinals since years. At the Women's Singles, Marion Bartoli, Justine Henin, Jelena Jankovic, Agnieszka Radwanska, Maria Sharapova, and Caroline Wozniacki are eliminated. Also, Julian Knowle/Andy Ram, Mahesh Bhupathi/Max Mirnyi, and Simon Aspelin/Paul Hanley are eliminated from the Men's Doubles side. But at the Women's Doubles side, Nadia Petrova/Samantha Stosur, Cara Black/Daniela Hantuchova, and Su-Wei Hsieh/Alla Kudryavtseva eliminated. In the Mixed Doubles, only Marcin Matkowski/Tathiana Garbin and Andy Ram/Elena Vesnina eliminated. Let's look surprises in Juniors'. From the Boys' side, Agustin Velotti (2010 Roland Garros champion, Boys' Singles category), Duilio Beretta, Roberto Quiroz (both Duilio Beretta & Roberto Quiroz are 2010 Roland Garros Boys' Doubles champions, defeated Agustin Velotti/Facundo Arguello at Grand Finals), Dominic Thiem, are eliminated. Also from the Girls' Singles side, British entrant Laura Robson advanced to the next round. We're still in the same side. The eliminated seeds from this side is Sophia Kovalets. At the Juniors' Doubles side, no seeds eliminated. So, stay tuned at the next day!

Main Draw Day 8
Welcome to Main Draw Day 8! This time, matches looks exciting and tight, especially in Juniors'. No Men's Singles matches this time, but prediction in this category is the most wanted predictions. Surprisingly, Venus Williams, Kim Clijsters, and Na Li are eliminated from the Women's Singles side. At the Men's Doubles, Marcel Granollers/Tommy Robredo and Julien Benneteau/Michaël Llodra are eliminated. Only 1 couple at Women's Doubles eliminated, Iveta Benesova/Barbora Zahlavova Strycova. 2 couples at Mixed Doubles, Daniel Nestor/Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Max Mirnyi/Alisa Kleybanova, are eliminated from this category. This day is the start of Legends' category. Who knows Martina Navratilova, Jana Novotna, and other legends, can watch this game. Actually, Legends' category has much fun, too! Surprisingly, Juan Sebastian Gomez, Kevin Krawietz, and Mate Zsiga, are eliminated from Boys' Singles. Another surprise is come, back to Legends' category. In the group stage, seeds are defeated by un-seeded, that's make Legends' category so fun! Back to the Juniors', in the Girls' Singles, Karolina Pliskova, Daria Gavrilova (who defeats Indonesian representative Grace Sari Ysidora in the 1st round), and Nastja Kolar are eliminated. At Boys' Doubles, Duilio Beretta/Roberto Quiroz are doing success, by beating Nick Chappell/Dane Webb (Dane Webb also eliminated in Boys' Singles). Also, Hugo Dellien/Dominic Thiem is seed eliminated at Boys' Doubles. At the Girls' Doubles, no seeds eliminated but South East Asian representative, Luksika Kumkhum fro Thailand and Grace Sari Ysidora from Indonesia, eliminated cause they lose against Sophia Kovalets/Sabina Sharipova. Main Draw Day 9
Welcome to Main Draw Day 9! About 4 days left into the end of 2010 Wimbledon Championships. Surprisingly, defending champion and number 1 seed Roger Federer is eliminated from the competition, defeated by Tomas Berdych in the Quarterfinals. Also, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is ousted by Andy Murray in the tight 4 sets. In the same time, Robin Söderling is ousted by Rafael Nadal, re-match of 2010 Roland Garros Grand Final and 2009 Roland Garros Preliminaries 4th round (that makes this match more popular). In Men's Doubles category, only the twins Bob Bryan/Mike Bryan eliminated. They defeated by Wesley Moodie/Dick Norman that seeded 7. Another surprise? The defending champion of Women's Doubles, The Williams' sisters, contains Serena Williams and Venus Williams, eliminated. In the category, Lisa Raymond/Rennae Stubbs and Kveta Peschke/Katarina Srebotnik also eliminated. Another surprise is coming at Mixed Doubles. Nenad Zimonjic/Samantha Stosur, Mark Knowles/Katarina Srebotnik, and Mariusz Fyrstenberg/Zi Yan were eliminated. Going to Juniors' category, surprise and surprise come, especially in Boys' Singles. Jiri Vesely, Tiago Fernandes (2010 Australian Open Boys' Singles Champion), Jason M. Kubler, and Mikhail Biryukov, are eliminated. Welcome to Main Draw Day 10! 3 days remaining to the end of 2010 Wimbledon Championships. Match looks interesting and competition looks tight at all. At the Women's Singles semifinals, Venus Williams and Vera Zvonareva advanced after defeated their opponents, Tsvetana Pironkova and Petra Kvitova. At Mixed Doubles, surprises happened this time. Paul Hanley with Yung-Jan Chan eliminated. More surprise is in Men's Doubles, when Wesley Moodie/Dick Norman defeated by Jürgen Melzer/Philipp Petzschner that unseeded. In Juniors' category, Denis Kudla surprisingly defeated by Facundo Arguello. Another surprise at Boys' Singles are James Duckworth and Renzo Olivo (surprisingly defeated by British entrant Oliver Golding). At the Boys' Doubles side, Denis Kudla/Raymond Sarmiento, etc. are eliminated. Let's go to Main Draw Day 11!

Main Draw Day 11
Welcome to Main Draw Day 11! In this day, we have many surprises especially in Juniors' and Main Category. In the main category, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray ousted by Tomas Berdych (1st time Grand Finalist) and Rafael Nadal. Matches looks interesting and tight this time. Also in this day, Gisela Dulko/Flavia Pennetta eliminated after defeated by unseeded Elena Vesnina/Vera Zvonareva. Another Women's Doubles seed eliminated is Liezel Huber/Bethanie Mattek-Sands. Also, surprises is more popular in Mixed Doubles, but this is Semifinals, so no problem. Lukas Dlouhy/Iveta Benesova and Marcelo Melo/Rennae Stubbs, eliminated. Main Draw Day 12
Welcome to Main Draw TebalDay 12! 1 day remaining into the end of the competition. In this day, we have so many surprises in all categories, especially in Juniors' and Main Categories. This is the first day of Grand Finals. Here is some results of Grand Finals:
Women's Singles Grand Finals: Serena Williams def. Vera Zvonareva 6-3, 6-2.
Serena defends the title, 4th Wimbledon title and 15th major title.
Men's Doubles Grand Finals: Jürgen Melzer/Philipp Petzschner def. Robert Lindstedt/Horia Tecau 6-1, 7-5, 7-5.
First grand slam title together in doubles for Melzer and Petzschner.
Women's Doubles Grand Finals: Vania King/Yaroslava Shvedova def. Elena Vesnina/Vera Zvonareva 7-6 (6), 6-2.
Girls' Singles Grand Final: Kristyna Pliskova def. Sachie Ishizu 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.

Men's Invitation Doubles: Donald Johnson/Jared Palmer def. Mark Petchey/Chris Wilkinson 6-3, 7-6 (3)

Main Draw Day 13
Welcome to Main Draw Day 13! This is the end of the competition this year. Tight matches, unforgettable moments, records, are our memories at this year's Wimbledon. Fun fact is recorded until this day. See it below!
  1. John Isner and Nicolas Mahut recorded the longest match, lasting about 3 days and 11 hours total.
  2. Tomas Berdych reached his first Grand Slam finals and Wimbledon finals.
  3. Jürgen Melzer and Philipp Petzschner is unseeded player who wins Doubles, after 2008 edition.
  4. As usual, many debutants (usually qualifiers) advanced to Main Draw for the 1st time, also 1st-time participant advanced from Qualifying Round.
  5. Boys' Doubles Grand Finals contains Briton contestant (Lewis Burton/George Morgan vs Liam Broady/Tom Farquhanson), and all seeds eliminated at least in Semifinals (Kevin Krawietz/Peter Heller seeded 5th and eliminated in Semifinals).
  6. Laura Robson participates in 4 categories (Women's Singles as Wild Card, Women's Doubles as Wild Card, eliminated at Preliminaries, then receives Wild Card in Juniors' event, in Girls' Singles and Girls' Doubles partnering Lucy Brown).
  7. Novak Djokovic's first round match against Olivier Rochus was the lastest-ever finish in Wimbledon, which finished at 10.58 pm, 2 minutes before 11 pm curfew. Djokovic won the match 4-6, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
  8. Taylor Dent broke the service record at Wimbledon, at 148 mph (beating the record set by Andy Roddick at 146 mph in 2009) in a match against Djokovic. Djokovic won in the end 7-6 (5), 6-1, 6-4.
  9. This year's Wimbledon is "same time" as World Cup, but this year the date is 21 June until 4 July. (think that every 4 years the month is same as World Cup, but different).
  10. From Day 1 until Day 13, the day that the most seeds eliminated from the main categories is Day 5 on 25 June, Day 6 on 26 June, and Day 7 on 28 June (cause the Sunday 27 June is the Middle Sunday, traditionally the rest day).
  11. For the first time Queen Elizabeth II visits Wimbledon, actually at 24 June this year, after 33 years.
  12. Before and after the match, Andy Murray and Jarkko Nieminen bowed to the Royal Box, a tradition that had previously not been in use since 2003.

Men's Singles Grand Finals: Rafael Nadal def. Tomas Berdych 6-3, 7-5, 6-4.
Second title for Nadal in Wimbledon, 5th title of the year, 41st in his career and 2nd time winner of Wimbledon.
Mixed Doubles Grand Finals: Leander Paes/Cara Black def. Wesley Moodie/Lisa Raymond 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Boys' Singles Grand Finals: Marton Fucsovics def. Benjamin Mitchell 6-4, 6-4.
Ladies' Invitation Doubles Grand Finals: Martina Navratilova/Jana Novotna def. Tracy Austin/Kathy Rinaldi 7-5, 6-0.
Boys' Doubles Grand Finals: Liam Broady/Tom Farquhanson def. Lewis Burton/George Morgan 7-6 (4), 6-4.
